Black Jag combines ultra light weight with tremendous power, superior fidelity, and excellent transient response. Balancing “transparency” with precise sonic “sculpt-ability”, versatility, and utility* on a variety of stages and genres from metal to smooth jazz Black Jag does all of this and does it extremely well.
Perhaps the most versatile amp in production today Black Jag combines ultra light weight with tremendous power, superior fidelity, and excellent transient response. Balancing “transparency” with precise sonic “sculpt-ability”, versatility, and utility* on a variety of stages and genres from metal to smooth jazz Black Jag does all of this and does it extremely well. TecAmp is known for its exceptional transient response and “aliveness”. Notes just seem to “explode” through TecAmp rigs, and Black Jag epitomizes excellent TecAmp dynamic performance.
(*The ability of an amp to adapt to a wide range of room acoustics whether they are ideal or problematic, and the ease with which one can dial in the desired/ ideal sound qualities.)
Its notable features start with widely variable Input Gain and -10dB pad contributing to textural nuance, and sensitivity in tracking one's playing subtleties.
Black Jag's bass optimized compressor/ limiter with “Slow and Fast” attack time facilitates subtle leveling, dramatic “endless sustain”, or hard knee “accentuated” attack which aids in emphasized punch and articulation.
Its “Taste” control offers easy to access subtle or dramatic “one knob” sound shaping which is usable and pertinent in dialing in desired bass sounds.
Its 4 band EQ section with selectable frequencies Lo Mid (240Hz/ 400Hz), and Hi Mid (800Hz/ 1200Hz) controls further enhance subtle to dramatic sound shaping with ideal frequency centering and notch width that delivers the shaping characteristics for which we bassists have been longing.
Lo and Hi boost controls round out Black Jag's sound shaping adding extension and “bigness” on the bottom, and “sparkle and air” on the top.
Black Jag's Rock knob is a feature which is initially overlooked by players who don't necessarily want a “distorted” rock or overdriven tube amp sound. For players wanting distortion the Rock knob's function is obvious, and fulfills the niche perfectly with precise variability and predictability of control, and ability to dial in just the right degree of distortion.
For bassists wanting an apparently clean tone the Rock knob control can still open new worlds. It is well know among producers and studio players and engineers that introducing a very slight degree of distortion into a bass track can greatly aid in enhancing general audibility and perceived clarity, articulation, and presence of bass in busy or musically dense mixes... both live and on recordings. In fact, slight amounts of almost inaudible distortion allow the overall volume level of the bass onstage and in recorded tracks to be lowered and be still be heard more apparent definition and clarity. Black Jag's Rock knob allows one to dial in just the precise amount.
Perhaps as important as an amp's sonic performance and utility is its weight and portability, and without exception Black Jag continues to amaze. Weighing in at just 6.61 pounds Black Jag's performance to weight ratio “raises the bar”, and represents TecAmp's dedication to completely satisfying bass player's demands.
Black Jag, Designed and Handcrafted in Germany... outstanding performance, incredible value.
